The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County serves over a thousand youth every year and continues to grow. This summer, we achieved our highest daily attendance of exactly 500 youth in a single day! Despite this growth, however, we are still not meeting the full extent of the community’s need for free, accessible afterschool and summer youth programs: every year, we receive more enrollment requests from parents than we can facilitate. To reduce that waitlist as much as possible, the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County partnered with the James H. Cummings Foundation to purchase two 15-passenger mini-buses, which we use to provide free transportation every single school day from most of the schools in the county to our 60,000 sq. ft. Club campus. These new mini-buses allow us to reach more families with our vital array of programs, including daily homework help, free meals, regular exercise, educational enrichment in key areas like STEM or literacy, college/career preparation, and robust social-emotional learning, which empower all youth, especially those who need us most, to learn, grow, and thrive. Our community is incredibly grateful to the James H. Cummings Foundation for ensuring that this crucial resource remains accessible to working families for years to come.
